The official handbook, *Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents*, can feel overwhelming. It covers everything from the Stone Age to the structure of the UK Parliament.

If you are short on time or just want a structured way to revise, this 7-day plan breaks the material down into manageable chunks.

Day 1: The Values and Principles

Start with Chapter 1 and 2. These are short but vital.

  • Focus: Memorize the "Fundamental British Values" (Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Tolerance).
  • Key Task: Understand the difference between criminal and civil law responsibilities.

Day 2: Early History (Stone Age to 1485)

This is often the hardest section due to the dates.

  • Focus: The Romans (Claudius, Hadrian's Wall), The Anglo-Saxons, The Vikings, and the Norman Conquest (1066).
  • Key Task: Learn the significance of the Magna Carta (1215) and the Black Death.

Day 3: The Tudors and Stuarts (1485–1714)

  • Focus: Henry VIII and his 6 wives, Elizabeth I and the Spanish Armada (1588).
  • Key Task: Understand the English Civil War (Cavaliers vs. Roundheads) and the Glorious Revolution (1688).

Day 4: A Global Power (1714–1914)

  • Focus: The Industrial Revolution (inventions like the steam engine), the Victorian Age, and the British Empire.
  • Key Task: Memorize the outcome of the Battle of Trafalgar (Admiral Nelson) and the Battle of Waterloo (Duke of Wellington).

Day 5: The 20th Century (1914–Present)

  • Focus: WWI and WWII leaders (Churchill), the welfare state (Beveridge Report), and social changes in the 1960s.
  • Key Task: Learn the dates for women's voting rights (1918 partial, 1928 equal).

Day 6: The UK Government & Law

  • Focus: The roles of the Monarch, the House of Commons, and the House of Lords.
  • Key Task: Learn the specific duties of the Prime Minister, the Cabinet, and the Opposition (Shadow Cabinet).

Day 7: Modern Culture & Mock Tests

  • Focus: Sport, Arts, and Customs (Christmas, Easter, Patron Saints).
  • Key Task: Take at least 5 full mock tests. If you are scoring under 75% (18/24), review your weak chapters.
