The Tudor Period

Henry VIII (1509-1547)

Famous for having six wives and breaking away from the Roman Catholic Church when the Pope refused to grant him a divorce. He established the Church of England with himself as the head. His reign saw the Dissolution of the Monasteries.

Elizabeth I (1558-1603)

One of England's greatest monarchs, her reign (the Elizabethan period) was a golden age of English culture:

The split from Rome divided society between Catholics and Protestants, leading to religious persecution under different monarchs.
